Argumentative Essay : Capital Punishment

At the beginning of this assignment, I was indifferent. I searched through the list of controversial topics, skipping past the ones I was passionate about, to find one that I had no opinion on. I had to choose something I wasn’t biased about because eventually I’d have to choose one and write a counter argument against. This became an opportunity to educate myself on something I had no knowledge of; the death penalty. My family had talked often about Capital Punishment and whether or not it was a suitable form of justice. My family was torn. After I chose the topic, they incessantly hounded me with their opinion and tried to sway me to their side. Eventually, when I had to just sit down and figure the facts out for both sides I chose. I decided that Capital Punishment is a form of societal control of the masses and a way to outcast those who violate those rules of a civilized society, however, it’s necessary. Capital punishment has been relevant for as long as the concept of justice has prevailed against the evil of the world. Capital Punishment lowers the amount of incarcerated criminals, saves taxpayers money, and ultimately makes the obedient society feel safer. I believe government involvement of the justice system demonstrates their involvement in the lives of the society. Justice needs to be carried out by some force, with a government a person is able to stand a fair trial. The judicial system has the right to deem a man or woman guilty based on provided evidence…
