Argumentative Essay: Can Guns Stop Crime?

The big question that everyone is asking is do guns stop crime? Due to the recent and pass incidents with schools, people think guns are the #1 reason for crimes in America. I have 3 reasons on how guns actually are one of the main reasons for crime. Guns are linked to crimes such as murder or rape, which is one of the huge problems. Not many people have the concealed carry license and just don’t obey. Then there’s people with mental illness who get their hands on a gun.

First of all, guns are linked to more serious crimes such as murder or rape or kidnappings and etc. When the wrong person gets their hands on a gun then you never know their intentions. Some examples are the tragedies at Sandy Hook Elementary, Columbine, and the Florida School shootings. Which in that case means that they got illeagely. So what’s the point in buying a gun if you don’t have a license? What would your intentions be if you don’t have the license because they’re meant for hunting and recreational use. So another reason why guns are a big reason for crime? Just because a lot of owners don’t obey the law and that’s why they get in trouble.

3rd reason why guns are a leading cause to crime is because a percent of the owners have a mental illness. Just like Sandy Hook and Florida’s shootings, those shooters had a mental illness and we’re able to get their hands on a gun. Gun shops should start having background checks on illnesses so they can reduce these tragedies. You never know what they plan to do with an actual lethal weapon when they have the opportunity to use one. Or they should have social workers or family to keep watch on them so they can’t get that one chance. Just a good way to reduce these problems with are
