With that being said if we add more laws, the criminals, who are already disobeying will try and be more devious about things. They will want to fall under the radar and still disobey the laws. The laws we have now benefit the citizens. The criminals who don’t obey the laws are still not going to obey them (ProCon.org). The last benefit of fewer gun laws is that people feel protected. With less guns laws they can not protect their homes from intruders. If they didn’t own a gun could they be kept safe? According to Goodman, “Gun possession by individuals is needed for legal purposes such as self defense…” With that with fewer laws people feel more protected and they can live on. The only drawback of fewer laws would be that with many people owning guns, multiple at home suicides, homicides and assaults could be avoided. If there were more gun laws in place many suicides would not of had happened, which could potentially lead to fewer suicides a year (ProCon.org). In one year about 1,500 children are hurt by guns because the safety lock either malfunctioned or was not used properly (Background on gun control). If there were more gun control laws many children and people could still be alive and well.
As well as declining numbers in suicides, with more gun laws it could reduce the number of gun murders per year. According to Background on Gun Control, “Over 100,000 people are shot each year in the U.S; 72% of all violent killings, guns were used as the murder weapon.” Many citizens carry guns on them, that is certain. If they were to get into a conflict on the streets they could easily pull out the gun and use it. Saying, with knowing there is a gun present could make a situation worse than it really is
