I grew up in a household where alcohol was always present, and I lived with someone who chose to constantly abuse it. People don’t act like it’s a privilege and more of a right to drink it. Social outings for teens normally include alcohol, simply for the fact of being rebellious.
For the duration of this essay I’m going to argue for both sides, and then at the end explain which side I am on. I feel that for this essay and the topic I chose I feel that it’s necessary to see both sides and explain more in depth.

To intelligently discuss the topic of whether it’s a disease you need to know the definition of it. Alcoholism: continued excessive or compulsive use of alcoholic drinks. When explaining a disease, people usually use the following three terms: disease, disorder, and syndrome. Individuals who drink and do not become addicted wind up suffering more from abusing alcohol because they think they are quote on quote “invincible”. There is an ongoing argument that alcoholism is a biological disease, or merely just a “bad habit”. Dr. Benjamin Rush medical researcher studied alcoholism to discover an alcohol related syndrome of medical problems as a disease. The idea of the whole thing was to find an alcohol related syndrome of medical problems as a disease. The inquiry began a procedure of alcoholism medical analysis as a disease. In 1950, the medical examination put together with Yale and Rutgers schools of alcohol studies’ projects. These projects ended up making up a big part of the information that brought together a convincing argument that alcoholism is in fact a disease. The Congress of the United States were convinced and created the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to push treatment programs nationwide. This allowed them to study and to make up the five different subtypes of alcoholism: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon.
Alpha alcoholics normally depend on psychological, but without physical. Beta alcoholics are not physically addicted to the alcohol, but related to physical health problems like liver damage. Gamma alcoholics are both physically and psychologically dependent on alcohol. Delta alcoholics are also physically and psychologically dependent on alcohol, but drinking intensity does not increase. The epsilon alcoholics are same as the periodic alcoholic, one may have a period of relapses and a binge stays for a long
