Their future is dim and full of struggle and hardships. Education can reach these kids and provide them with new opportunities to change their financial situation. Funding and spending should shift from unnecessary items to things like education and water to help people in need. If a fraction of the 780 billion spent on military was used for these causes, real change will occur. Individuals can certainly help too. As Andrew Carnegie suggested in The Gospel of Wealth, the wealthy can aid the struggling by putting opportunities within reach. Many believe that this is simply saying that the rich should just give away their money as handouts. However, as Carnegie put it, “the main consideration should be to help those who will help themselves” not those who are looking to simply take (Source D).
