Have you ever asked yourself the question “why does this only happen to me?”. Well do not worry because facing adversity might or might not be to your advantage. Most people who have faced adversity, changed at one point of their life. Whether the event was good or bad, a person becomes resilient after overcoming the events and solving their problems. As a result of facing adversity, most people often face events that have an impact on their lives and helps them shape their character for future events. Adversity can have a negative effect on a person’s life. Adversity can damage people in a strong way, depending on the occasion. People react different when adversity strikes them, some people might benefit from an event and others might …show more content…
In most cases people learn a lesson after being struck by adversity. People’s feelings change due to the impact that the event had in their lives. A quote that supports the claim can be found on “What is poverty” by Jo Goodwin Parker. Parker describes how difficult it is to be poor, but she states that she has gotten stronger. The quote states “A dream of when asking for help does not eat away the last bit of pride. When the office you visit is as nice as the offices of the other governmental agencies, when there are enough workers to help you quickly, when workers do no quit in defeat and despair. When you have to tell your story to only one person and that person can send you for other help and you don't have to prove your poverty over and over again. I have come out of my despair to tell you this. Remember I did not come from another place or another time. Others like me are all around you. Look at us with an angry heat, anger that will help”. This quote describes how difficult Jo Goodwin’s life has been. She has struggle through poverty, but she has found a way to get herself back on to her feet. She learned how to become resilient by herself without the help of anybody. Another quote that supports the claim can be found on the expository text “How people learn to become resilient” by Maria Konnikova. Konnikova points out some key factors to help become resilient. Konnikova states “People who attained academic, domestic, and social success- and were always ready to capitalize on new opportunities that arose and developed into competent, confident, and caring young adults”. Maria points some key factors that can help people become resilient. Being ready for whatever lies ahead of you is a great characteristic for a resilient person.
