Argumentative Essay About My Writing

Decent Essays
The writing that I enjoyed the most this year was the argumentative essay. The reason why this type of writing has been my favorite is because, I can express my opinion and show how I think about a certain topic. In an argumentative piece you try to convince the reader why your side of the debate is right. I am a person who has a strong opinion at heart, so when I can express that side of me and show why I am right it makes me feel amazing. A lawyer or attorney are jobs I could see myself doing in the future. Although my writing is pretty good there are still some improvements that I can add to it. I would start by using better word choice. Word choice is part of the six traits of writing. It is used to paint a picture in the reader’s mind.

Every year, there is a new controversial state law resulting in a nationwide backlash. As of March 23, 2016, North Carolina officially joined the reign of states that include laws that tear the population apart. In the past year, the United States has made significant progress in the fight for LGBT equality. Over the summer, we watched as the Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges allowed same-sex couples in all 50 states to get legally married, and while the long-lasting battle for the legalization of same-sex marriage was won, the battle for gender identity equality was still at war. There is no federal law that prevents businesses and states from discriminating against gender identity and transgender people.…

In the articles “Three Cheers for the Nanny State,” “Ban the Ban!,” and “Soda’s a Problem but…”, all three authors present their arguments with facts, opinions, and counterclaims. However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…

Hungry for Change Why is it that law mandates public school meals have a minimum calorie intake, but not a maximum? This owes itself to the fact that when nutrition standards were established for public schools, it was to solve the problem of undernourishment. English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…

The Final Chapter In order to make a well written and interesting paper, you must first look at and take in all the aspects of good writing and apply them. For starters, the author must be well versed in all his vocabulary, his point well stated, and his paper flowing and impactful. One must know their audience and entertain them whilst also having a well thought out argument that can be ridiculed and still stand on its own. Written pieces must hold a few quintessential values as well, such as; good writing form, well written and clear cut arguments, a flow of words through the paper, and a small amount of catering to their general audience.…
