Informative Speech About Marijuana

Summary: Before I can tell you about marijuana, I must first tell you WHAT is Marijuana. Marijuana comes from the hemp plant. The drug cannabis comes from this plant, but marijuana is the term used to describe both the drug and the plant as a whole. Now the names of Marijuana are as numerous as its benefits. I’m sure you’ve heard one or more of these terms: weed, ganja, hash, herb, kush, mary jane, buda, chronic, grass, green, bud, flower, etc. etc.. And I’m sure many of you also know an easy way to obtain this substance. Marijuana, by far, is one of the most easily attainable and widespread substances in the world. It is legal for medical use only in Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Florida, and Vermont. These states allow only the use of CBD (Cannabidiol) oil only: Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin. But with all this, there is one problem. Marijuana is ILLEGAL in the eyes of the FEDERAL government. That means that despite it being legalized in one form or another among the states, the federal government can, at any time, bring it all to a crashing halt. This is because marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug. This means that, in the eyes of the government, marijuana is one of the most dangerous, addictive and illegal substances there is. Also in Schedule 1 drugs are heroin, LSD, and ecstasy. To put that into perspective, Schedule 2 drugs, which are less illegal and “less dangerous” than Schedule 1 include vicodin, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
