What is the best wild hunter? Would you say wolves - a skilled group hunter? How about the peregrine falcon who is fast and agile, or maybe the killer whale known to be smart and resourceful? Actually the best wild hunter is the fox because it is sneaky, adaptable, yet adorable and ferocious.
The fox species is a small predator from the canine family also know as vulpes scientifically. Foxes were made to sneak with their low to the ground body and long and skinny pads so they can sneak up on prey. Foxes are mostly nocturnal hunting in the woods and fields for small game. Their small slim bodies can fit through small gaps and their usually short hair doesn’t get caught on thorns. Most people think of foxes as carnivorous, but it simply isn’t true. One aspect that all foxes have is pointy ears. Not only are they cute but they are also very helpful. A red fox can hear a mouse squeaking from 330 feet away. This can help them sense prey but also danger. A fox's tail is extremely bushy which of course is cute, but can also be used for a rudder if they swim or a blanket in the cold. Foxes can swim, but do it very rarely. Many foxes live in warm places, but not all of them. For example the Arctic Fox is all white and lives in and near the arctic circle. Winters are harsh, but when the fox lays down to sleep they can curl up and wrap their tail around them. Foxes aren’t just cute and fluffy, but they are also ferocious hunters. They are territory some of the time, but have been known to share if there is no where else to go. Some foxes even communicate between each others about abandon dens. Foxes aren’t afraid to protect there young, food, or den. Mothers nurture their young for seven months until they leave the den to fend for
