There might be some downsides of communicating through text messages. For instance, it can affect someone's social and personal development. For example, a study done by Tamyra Pierce claims that "social skills and face to face interactions are damaged through impersonal communication because the individual is unable to express body language, tone, voice, touch, and facial expressions through text messages" (SiOWFA15). Even though it is better to communicate face to face, there may be some complications, or it might be difficult to see the person in person. For example, my grandfather was struggling and was starting to die very slowly. We were going to see him, but he lived in Arizona at the time. Also, my brother and I were in school, so we couldn't leave school immediately; we had to wait until school was out. During the last few months of school we talked to him on the phone, because it is better than not talking to him at all. It is very hard for someone to have a face to face interaction with someone if they are far away. Another example of distance is business-related. Say you are trying to sell a product to a company but you can't show them the product and talk to them in person about it. People still find ways to communicate if it is face to face or through texting or social media. For many people the way to communicate with one another varies. It is important to interact with people in person because you can truly express yourself and you cannot avoid uncomfortable and undesired situations because you are not behind a screen. If you have physical access with the person you want to talk to then go communicate with them in person. However, if there is no physical existence then technological communication is better. There are many ways to communicate and connect with people whether it is face to face, texting, facetiming, or social media.
