Arranged marriage is a traditional form of marriage, where both parties of a couple are chosen by their families. It does affect the bride and groom in several manners, as emotional attachment does not exist most of the time. Arranged marriage has numerous downsides including: women abuse, human rights violation and human trafficking. Moreover, women experience sexual violence and tend to encounter physical and emotional dilemmas, wherein they are mistreated which eventually causes them to suffer from depression, sexually transmitted infections, eating or sleep disorders and flashbacks due to the traumas they have experienced in the past. Arranged marriage should be banned in Lebanon since it is a negative phenomenon. This problem can be solved through educating parents about the brutal consequences of forced marriages, empowering girls to become leaders in their communities and amending the Lebanese decrees and laws concerning arranged marriage.
