Argumentative Essay: Abortion Should Be Considered Murder

The debate over abortion is split into two groups, one in which contains those who describe themselves as “pro-choice” and believe that abortion should be easily accessed by those who need it, and “pro-life” those who believe that abortion is immoral and should be considered murder. And while both sides present several points to support their beliefs, it is the woman’s right to decide whether or not she goes through a pregnancy. One of the main arguments in the subject of abortion is the question on whether or not, and at what point, a fetus should be considered a human being. This argument could be viewed on many standpoints, such as medical, moral, and spiritual, though in the end, the woman is the one being affected. Murder by definition is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another, so it goes back to what one considers a human being. Though even if you believed a fetus was a human being, an unborn baby isn’t even considered a fetus until 8 weeks after conception. So when put into perspective, it is unethical to take away the choice of having a safe abortion. People also claim that it is irresponsible to consent to intercourse if one is not ready to care for a child, but there are many other situations and circumstances that they’re not considering. For example, the patient could have been a victim of rape, they could be aware that the baby isn’t going to be born healthy, or they could simply not have the recourses to care for the child.
