When reading through this letter, the first step was to digest it sentence by sentence and that was not only an interesting examination, but also an easy way to see exactly why everything was improperly worded throughout the entire letter. For starters, the first sentence already started to show the passive aggressive tone the author was letting off. By saying they had “a great show of moral indignation” already tells the readers that they were, by definition, angry or annoyed at what they perceived was unfair treatment towards not only them, but also the other college students that were being bashed for cheating. The author first starts by suggesting that there are many other things that the Monroe College has to worry about rather than the students cheating. Going back the beginning of the letter, the readers can see that the author clearly says that “so many” students do cheat, so why wouldn’t the professors be worried? Again, this would be a case of the author contradicting their own previous statements. To try and prove the authors point, they give an example of what the people of the college could worry about and it has absolutely nothing to do with the letter itself.
