Christians are called to have peace and not to love violence. Still, there are situations where a Christian fights against evil. A just war is not something to be taken lightly. It is very carefully thought about and entered for a just reason. Paragraph 2309 of Catechism of the Catholic Church says, "The strict conditions for legitimate defense by military force require rigorous consideration. The gravity of such a decision makes it subject to rigorous conditions of moral legitimacy." Just war must meet a certain criteria and discerning thinking goes into it. The only reason for a just war is the result of peace. Sometimes, force has to be used to institute peace. Dr. J. Daryl Charles says, "Justice without force is a myth." And finally, the outcome of a just war is peace because Christians are peacemakers. If this peace is interrupted, then force must be used to get it back. Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "We are going to have peace even if we have to fight for it." Fighting for peace and fighting to protect are just reasons to go to a just war. Imagine feeling the pain of sitting back and watching loved ones being killed, and no one steps up to protect
