Not only does the document cause arguments, it’s very important in our nation, The United States of America, and misinterpreting this 226 year old document will cause our country to go down the wrong path. You would think that it wouldn’t be that hard to interpret a 226 year old document, but the 2nd Amendment has caused us much trouble. The main portion of the 2nd Amendment reads “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This 226 year old statement is of much debate in previous days, months, years, and elections, and will be for many days, months, …show more content…

The Constitutional Amendments embody graceful authority – they are words and phrases and sentences that walk slowly, shoulders back, holding themselves high. Theses sentences are this nation’s royalty. But, while they stand tall to guard the nation and the people, over time they begin revealing fallacies in their nature. We the people have the freedom of speech, of press and religion, the freedom to question our government and protest.…

The first reason why the second amendment is important is because we are an uncommon nation, to have the right to own arms so why change it. Alexander Hamilton, Founding Father, said “The Constitution shall never be constructed… to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arm”. That means that the constitution will never be built to stop peaceable citizens from owning guns. I think he meant as long as we are peaceable citizens, we shall have the right to own guns and if…

The Second Amendment, which is a part of the Bill of Rights, is an important amendment that was written in such a way that over the years people have struggled to come up with the exact way in which it was meant to be interpreted. The Second Amendment states “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” (Pendergast, Pendergast, Sousani 30). During times in our American history we have reached a point where most people were in agreement with how the government handled this amendment and everything surrounding it. Recent violent crime in the U.S. has sparked repeated public calls for stronger federal gun control laws (Pendergast, Pendergast, Sousani 31).…

Grant Arnold, a legal professor at Brigham Young University, takes the story of the Amendment back even further. He explains how King James II of England was overthrown after he attempted to weaken the strength of his people though disarmament (Arnold, 2015, p. 484). The Framers then took this detail into account when writing the Bill of Rights. According to Arnold, this proves that the founding fathers included it so that the people may overthrow a tyrannical leader (Arnold, 2015, p. 485). David Vandercoy, a professor at New York School of Law, elaborates on Arnold’s point, pointing out the intentions behind the Second Amendment.…

To continue, the second amendment means the people of America have the right to have a gun for the safekeeping of our country. This affects gun control policies by saying anyone can have a gun. If the government wanted to ban guns, they are taking away the country’s freedom. Also, they would be taking guns away from the Militia, so if the army was in a different country and people attack America, the Militia would have no way of fighting back.…

The second amendment of the Bill of Rights is the “right to bear arms”. This basically means that everyone has the right to own weapons. This includes any reasonable weapon that can be used for an individual’s self-defense, such as a gun. Just like all amendments, to defy someone of the right given in that amendment is unconstitutional. Many people who are for gun control argue that guns are not needed for self defense and are not protected in the second amendment due to it being written, “in a different time”.…
