At present, people cannot go a day without using the Internet. The Internet is utterly important today since it has a great amount of use for everyone. It has numerous advantages like finding what we are looking for in just one click. Unlike in the early 90’s, when we are asked to research for a certain topic, we do not need to go to the public library anymore and search the hard way. Instead, we just have to open our smartphones, tablets, or computers, connect to the Internet, open Google, and voila! Yet there are times when the Internet has failed its job. Have you ever experienced getting frustrated waiting for an Internet browser to load for you to access and make use of the Internet? Well, I have. In fact, in this very moment, I have trouble finding credible sources because of the slow connection of our Internet. Just imagine needing to pass your essay to your English professor, but bad luck is on your side. The Internet is taking forever to load and you only have 5 minutes until the deadline. What will you do now? Slow Internet has always been a problem in our country. I think making the Internet a basic service can help in improving the Internet speed in our country. With Internet being a basic service, the government can manage it fully. According to Fonbuena (2014), the NTC can push an IP peering among local Internet Service Providers, which can also improve the speed of the Internet, if it had the power. As of now the NTC does not have any power over this since, like I said before, the Internet is just a value added service. It is still not a basic
