This begs the question of why didn’t anyone say something. The answer is found within the book Constructing the Political Spectacle by Murray Edelman. Edelman makes mention that problems are often created with a certain solution already in mind. Essentially the solution exist even before the problem. He even describes a problem as “a reinforcement to an ideology”4. Edelman continues by stating that when the term problem is deplored on a condition, opportunity presents itself. So when people started worrying about health and the regulations were lifted about health claims and the imitation label was taken away, it left a spot for money to be made. Culture is all over, even with food. Michael says that food culture is like your mother because that’s where an individual gains there knowledge on food.6 Pollan uses arguments with other research to combat the western diet. One of these studies looked at the Aborigine group that suffered from heart disease7. When this group was taken back from the Western Diet and had to feed off of what they had to in the past, the scientist noticed that they were healthier. He also uses studies conducted by Weston Price and Sir Albert Howard prove that the western diet is something that the human digestion system isn’t something it has evolved to handle.
