Competition has its pluses and minuses. Both sides have very strong arguments, but I believe that there are more positive agendas that come from competition. Competition teaches people leadership qualities; something that many employers desire. It teaches people determination, something necessary to beat the person across for them, and how to be successful. But, I believe the most important lesson that competition teaches us is that not everybody is a winner, competition is not fair, as in life. And if you want to win, you have to work harder than your competition. I used two websites for this paper. One weighed the pros and cons of competition, and the other is pro competition for a variety of different reasons. The first website …show more content…
This article mainly praises high school competition, varsity sports in particular, for teaching people leadership skills which then migrate into the workplace which helps those people win competitive jobs. It talks about how athletes tend to have a higher self-esteem because of chemicals in your body from exercising. And how the 'in' group tends to receive better jobs than others. I agree with the pro statements about competition in high school sports. It teaches students many things like leadership. Even if somebody is not a 'leader', they still probably are. Many athletes lead by example. They are efficient in the classroom and often train very hard. They know that they need to get better and that is what they strive to do. They create good work ethics and teaches them that good things come from hard work. They learn to fight through tough situations, even if things are not leaning in their favor. They also learn that they are always capable of pushing themselves harder and harder. It teaches people that for success you must work hard. You must fight through adversity and pressure to be

Indeed, quiz show provides a feeling of everyone has equal opportunities to win no matter what job, talent, class, gender or race they are through doing same quizzes. As Holmes has argued about Fiske's explanation of games and rituals, games separate out winners from contestants as different, but rituals bringing different individuals in same levels and implying commonality (2008, p.93). In Mastermind, rituals fill in that idea by reducing individual's differences and make them compete at same starting line as equal competitor. For example, the host askes each contestant's name, job and the specialist area they choose to do the quiz before they start to answer, and tells competitors that each of them have equal time to answer the quizzes which…

On the other hand, the distributed self would suggest that how people experience the world and make sense of it is primarily a result of socio-cultural processes, which varies over time and space. Constructionists conceptualize depression as an identity continually renegotiated via linguistic exchange and social performance. They would argue that the biological attitude excludes the social and linguistic dimensions of experience from consideration; social constructionist perspective is essential to understand how subjectivity and meaning are constructed in language and social interaction. For example I will briefly discuss the argument of gender differences in depression and how social constructionists consider that through looking at the ‘material discursive’ practices it is the pressures of society, which causes depression. They argue that a certain pressure is thrust upon women to be doing activities that fits the ideology of being a ‘good woman’ this can exhaust the woman’s body therefore causing depression.…

Being a student athlete is a wonderful thing in high school, despite a lot of people only acknowledge the athlete part and not the student part. I believe that academics come first and if a high school student wants to be an athlete, then getting good grades should be a requirement. It should be mandatory for teachers and coaches to check the grades of student athletes weekly to determine whether students are performing academically well or not. The students that aren’t doing well should be dismissed from any further games and practices until their grades improve. It is important that student athletes maintain good grades because the work that they put into their school performance carries with them through life, putting too much of an emphasis…
