Carlie Niederkorn Mr. Poor Clearwater R-1 Volleyball Captain My senior year we started volleyball and I already knew I could have the freshmen bowing down to me my the snap of a finger. I would be in control. I started using the 3 rhetorical appeals to get what I wanted done. I can use them through words or even movements.…
Everyone of all ages will be coming out to see the Woodward War Eagles take on the Buford Wolves in a tennis match that is already being dubbed “the match of the century”. The match will take place on Monday at the state-of-the-art facility known as Shailendra Tennis Center which can seat 20 lucky fans comfortably. The tennis center has recently added a brand new jumbotron where the fans are more interested in getting on the big screen than observing what is actually taking place on the courts. The students can not wait for the upcoming showdown as they are planning on blacking out the mammoth of a stadium. In order to do this, SGA is selling black t-shirts for twenty dollars apiece to come out of uniform on the exciting Monday and to where to…
Think of a time when you didn’t want to watch football because of injuries. Football is all about big hits and trying to strip the ball away from the other player. So, yes I agree football is the appropriate for it is the players choice to feel the pain and they will end up feeling the remorseful players beating into their skulls and the Chronic consequences. Also there's a risk everywhere you go or do for example you can get hit by a car, a brick can fall on you from construction which can cause a concussion. It is that one being or the player that makes the choice and risk of playing a full contact sport like football.…

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--The West Virginia University football team is off to a 6-0 start for the first since the 2006 season. With success sometimes comes failure but the Mountaineers are trying to stay ground amidst their success. "I think we have a group of kids who understands where we are, WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen said. "Our job is the same going into game seven as it was going into game one. You have a week, you prepare all week and you practice hard to get yourself in a position to play on Saturday and then go play.…
Youth football has been part of American sports for many decades. As I was sitting in class pondering a topic, I suddenly came upon the idea to tackle the question which as of late is a popular one. Is youth football a healthy sport to be played by our youth? I have a nephew 13 years old currently playing the sport, which by the way I myself refused to play. Most recently during a game which I had attended at Northview middle school where my nephew goes, a teammate of my nephew was going through a routine play, when suddenly he was blindsided by an unsuspecting blow.…
Youth football is leagues of children from the age groups of 5-15 all divided into their own divisions. Each division has age groups to determine where the child is placed. These divisions are known as tiny mite ages 5-7, mitey mite ages 7-9, Jr. Peewee ages 8-11, and then peewee ages 9-12. This is the full contact tackle league. The controversy with this is that kids shouldn’t be playing full contact football at that early of an age.…
Imagine a world where cheer is a sport and all is wonderful. If this was hard it is because that world does not exist. For years cheer has been discussed if it is a sport or not. Cheer meets the definition of a sport, yet for some unknown reason a U.S. judge and others declared it not a sport. The guys and girls that participate in cheer believe it is a sport, others believe cheer is silly.…
During a game against the Eagles in '99,Michael Irvin was forced hard into the turf by Tim Hauck. He ended up with a cervical spinal cord injury and was forced into early retirement. The first football game was in 1869 since then football has changed, with pads and helmets . Currently we just passed Super Bowl 50.We would be better off without football because people get injured too much. Knee injuries and concussions are the most common of injuries.…
“There is a long list of proven leaders that can attribute part of their development to sports like Jeffrey Immelt, Meg Whitman, and even President George H. W. Bush.” (Kai Sato, From the Case of High School Sports). Without the availability of high school sports could these leaders have gotten to where they are now if sports were not part of their development? High school sports are worth the time and money that schools spend on them because they change people for the better and allow people to become more successful. The benefits for high school sports include gaining important character traits such as perseverance, provides disadvantaged students to participate in sports, and presents potential future job opportunities.…
At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…
In recent years there has been a debate inside college athletics that centers around the true value of college athletes and whether or not a scholarship is truly enough to keep the athletes in school and ensure they get their degrees. Many athletes in Division I sports, primarily basketball and Football Bowl Subdivision college football see college as a stepping stone to either the NFL or the NBA. The NCAA tracks the graduation rates in these sports via the GSR, or Graduation Success Rate, which measures the amount of student-athletes that graduate within six years of enrollment. On October 25, 2014 the NCAA released their latest GSR study which found that FBS football student-athletes graduated at a 75% rate and men’s basketball athletes graduate…
Paige Bloskas WRIT 101-Section 112 Dr. Kerstin Rudolph Is Cheer a Sport? Many people today debate wether cheer is a sport or not. Some people stereotype a cheerleader as merely being a woman standing on the sidelines of games looking perfect, shaking their pom poms, holding signs and yelling chants for football players.…

Participation in sports has become common among children and adults. Youth sports are a fun way for kids under 18 to participate in sports and have fun doing what they love. Some people argue that youth sports teach young athletes the value of teamwork and leadership. Others argue that youth sports have become too intense and competitive. I believe that youth sports have become too intense and competitive because of the increased injuries in young athletes and the attitude of parents and coaches towards the children.…
