AZEK deck ad
This print ad views a deck in the shape of a painter’s pallet from the top. It has colorful flowers placed around the edges of the deck and two people cooking a healthy, delicious looking meal in the center. It’s set on a field of perfect dark green grass and the lighting is focused on the deck. A short message, in white and gold, below the deck states “Create an enduring masterpiece”. At the bottom of the ad in a small, insignificant font, there are more details and the company logo.
The ad immediately catches the viewer’s eye with its painting pallet that is also a deck. The bright lighting at the center and shading around the edges forces the focus to the deck.

The Calvin Klein Jean ad shows a half-naked man draped over half-naked women both of the oiled up and twisting around each other, conveys an implied steamy twosome. Calvin Klein is known for their quality of clothing and their high status on the fashion runway. In the ads, they are known for their edginess. They are not shy about going out of the norms when it comes to making their adverts. It all started in 1980 with the Brooke Shields (a 15 year old girl) advert in 1980, with a punch line "Nothing comes between me and my class" One would argue that even though the ad is targeting a younger demographic there still needs to be a sense of responsiveness towards proper ethics.…

Even something as small as blurring out the background on an off centered portrait. The intention is to make the background stand out, drawing your attention to what is going on in the negative space. This makes the viewer curious, which makes them notice more. As human beings, we crave attention and socialization. IKEA advertisers take advantage of this need and use it in their ad to hook us in. This is mainly pointed out by showing the people gathered at the table that can be assumed to be a group of friends happily enjoying a meal together as they talk to each other. The daylight coming from behind the curtain and contrast of light and dark establish a surmounting feeling of a friendly environment and increase our awareness of the people gathered together and the expressions they show. The food placement on the table is another example of social context.…
