Argument of Fact Janet Froetscher, president and CEO of the National Safety Council stated, “Studies show that driving while talking on a cell phone is extremely dangerous and puts drivers at a four times greater risk of a crash” (“Should”). Driving while talking on a cell phone is the new drunk driving, and studies show that it could possibly even be worse. According to a new study by CBS texting while driving has now surpassed drinking and driving as the leading cause of death among teens. Drunk driving fatalities have dropped 25% while texting and driving fatality accidents have increased around 22% (Masters). Of course, there are things that may potentially distract a person more than a cell phone, such as looking at themselves in the mirror. Cell phone use however is much more prevalent than most distractions; therefore, making it a much more dangerous risk overall.
