Philosophers such as Ayn Rand elaborates saying it our best nature to only be concerned about one’s self as it the main motive for one’s existence.
I. Main argument. o Your main premise: The Egoist Claims we are all selfish just by acting.
• The egoist argues that we simply only do things for our own self-interest as it is in our nature to be selfish. A supporter of egoism might offer up the example of a friend who tells her classmate she will send her the notes because she is ill. The egoist would argue this is a selfish act because gets satisfaction out of being a good friend. “All of us seek to maximize our pleasure but because we differ in what we enjoy, we act in different ways.” (Chan 413) o At least one subsequent premise: Moral Theories suggest it is possible to act and not be selfish.

Selfishness is determined by wanting something for yourself while unselfishness is wanting something for another person. Standard moral theories tell us that we must care and give value to others and sometimes sacrifice ourselves for the better of the group. “Standard moral theories determine importance at least in part by considering the payoff to those helped.”
