In class we did an experiment to help the Alley Cat Bowling team build a successful bowling lane, and we had to answer the question ,what recommendations will you give to the Alley Cats to help them win the bowling championship? Before this experiment, I had to research some things about energy. Energy is a property matter, and all matter has it. In other words its ability is to do works. Also, there are many other forms of energy like, sound, heat, friction, electrical, nuclear, and mechanical energy, ext. In this experiment there was potential, kinetic, heat, friction, and sound energy. To calculate the potential energy the formula is (Ep = m*g*h) and the kinetic energy formula is (Ek = 1/2mv2)

The decision came to, the bowling pins are paper note cards, and the bowling balls are marbles. Then I had to decide what was going to be my independent variable. I could have changed the slope of the bowling lane or I could have changed the mass of the bowling ball. I decided to have two textbooks as my slope. I picked this because two textbooks does not have a too high of a slope or a too low of a slope. Also, I decided on doing four trials and having four different bowling ball masses. When the experiment started, we collected the data by timing the marble from start to finish. After the marble stopped, we would measure from where the marble started and where the marble ended. To see which marble had the better experiment I would compare the different sized …show more content…
The first experiment had the highest potential energy which is 3786.034 J. The first experiment also has the highest kinetic energy. This was 75552.50572 J. This experiment showed potential, kinetic, and sound energy, friction energy, and heat energy. The marble showed potential energy when it was at the top of the textbooks and the marble showed kinetic when it was rolling down the pool noodle. Potential is stored energy and kinetic is energy that is in motion. When the marble was rolling down the noodle it may have had friction and this could cause heat energy. This experiment does show and follow the law of conservation of energy by turning potential energy into kinetic energy. cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another or transferred from one object to

Cup 1 had 1 t-spoons of vinegar, cup 2 had 2 t-spoons, and last cup 3 had 3 t-spoons. These shells were weighed before we put them into the cups to see the mass of each one. My partners put each shell on the scale and measured it in grams. Through this process the end results were, the first shell weighing 1.15g, the second shell 2.26g and last the third shell 1.41g before we put them into the vinegar. The independent variable would be the amount of vinegar put into the saltwater.…

The purpose of trying to figure out what was inside the black bottle was to understand the basic elements of the scientific inquiry process. We hypothesized that there was a push pin and string inside the unknown bottle—this was based on observations. In order to determine whether our hypothesis was correct or not, we massed out the unknown bottle, an empty bottle, and items that could potentially be inside the bottle. We also put items inside the empty bottle and compared the sound to the unknown bottle. The results showed that there were differences in sound between the unknown bottle and the empty bottle that had different items inside.…

Based on the previous examples they are likely to predict that both will reach the clay disks at the same time, but they will be asked to ponder on the following: if I cut the strings at the same time, they will reach the clay disk at the same time, but which ball will create a deeper dent on the clay disk? If one ball leaves a deeper dent, does that mean that it has more gravitational potential energy or less? To respond to these questions the students will work on the Gravitational Potential Energy Investigation handout, and the strings holding the bowling balls will be cut only after they finish their investigation so they can explain why one ball makes a deeper dent in the clay disk than the other…

According to the Oxford Dictionary, “energy” is defined as the “power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.” By the Oxford’s definition we can see that there is a correlation between energy and industry. It can be confirmed by the role of coal in the Industrial Revolution, in Great Britain, late 1700s. Coal was the main energy resource utilized by industries during that time. Thus the development of the emerging industry was extremely dependent of the supply of coal.…

Introduction: tittle: The bouncing ball efficiency when bouncing a ball at different heights Energy cannot be destroyed or created it can only be transferred in to different types of energy like kinetic, heat, light, electrical, chemical, elastic potential, gravitational potential, thermal, nuclear and sound energy. When calculating energy, you would work in measurement like joules, kilojoules and millijoules. There are many types of energy like kinetic energy which is when a object is moving like a car driving and ball being thrown and a riding a bike. Sound energy is when an object conducts a type of sound like singing, screaming, shouting, playing music from a speaker.…

Pill Bugs: An experiment Introduction Pill bugs are very small and can be found anywhere. Under rocks, in between cracks, in your science class; they are everywhere! However, it is common knowledge that pill bugs do not like to be in open spaces. There are just too many dangerous possibilities, and they don’t need to take the risks. In this experiment, we tested to see if light affected the decisions of where pill bugs like to stay.…

First, Energy has multiple forms that can switch different states. The two most common forms of energy are, Kinetic and Potential Energy. Kinetic Energy is the energy created when an object is in motion. It can be transferred between two objects if the object has enough energy, therefor it can be from of a collision. Kinetic energy can also be elastic or inelastic energy, however Potential Energy is an energy, but is potentially created before Kinetic Energy.…

Over three days, we tested what would happen to an egg after leaving in various liquids over a 24-hour period. Before letting the egg submerge in vinegar overnight the initial weight of the egg was 66.6 grams. We thought that after leaving the egg in vinegar the shell of the egg would get softer. The independent variable is the vinegar and the dependent variable is the egg. We believed that the egg would be softer; because we saw the vinegar bubble once we put the egg in it.…

The most important property of kinetic energy in the ability to do work, and it can be transferred from one body to another in collision, which can be elastic or inelastic. Joule found out about Energy and made joules by looking at a falling weight that was twisting a pole making temperature. Before and after, energy has to be conserved and stay the same. Examples for conserving energy would be: chemical energy to mechanical energy to heat driving a car. Conserving energy turns one energy into multiples by spreading them evenly throughout one’s force.…

The kinetic energy of an object is the energy it owns because of its motion. These safety features increase the time taken for the change in speed of the passengers. The reduced speed causes the forces involved in the crash to be less and therefore making the injuries caused by the crash to be reduced. An English engineer, called George Cayley, in the mid-19th…
