The American identity is something that has stuck around our culture even before we gained our independence from Britain. I think this shows that just being from America isn't enough to have an american identity, it comes with obligations. Way back in the 1700s when we were getting our independence we decided that enough was enough and we were going to revolt against the british, and that is because we believed that everyone should be treated equally and that is worth fighting for. That applies today as well with people fighting for our country and supporting it just as we did 250 years ago.
