Many newspapers like the Miami Herald explained “The day we learned details of Trayvon’s three suspensions, we played that story below a Page 1 story that examined how anger over handling of the case had spurred a new wave of political activism. When we used the photo of Trayvon in his hoodie, we did so alongside a story that explained the hoodie as a symbol” (Marques Gonzalez, 2012, p. 1). As we sit and think about this issue we see that this has destroyed the life of a promising teen. We will never know what could have become of a promising life. We need to increase awareness about racial profiling and demonstrate to the public that racism is far from being over. Racism is just disregarded. Communities need to develop a plan that embraces acquiring a group of diverse individuals to promote diversity and inform the public about discrimination and racial profiling. Many people are sensitive when the topic is race, gender, or cultural groups are on the table for discussion.
