In my picture, I chose to illustrate a phone with an “X” over it and a road in the background. I chose this illustration to promote no texting and driving. Texting while driving cause eleven teen deaths a day and are the reason for twenty-five percent of vehicle crashes. (Quinstreet) My illustration is a strong example of a visual argument because it has a strong point it is trying to get across: texting and driving is dangerous. While laws are being passed to secure the ever-so frightening occurrence, people are still texting and driving. It is even illegal in some states to text and drive. It does not need to come to one of your loved ones getting hurt or killed to see the horrific things that happen when you text and drive. The call or text can be made when the vehicle is in park and off the roads. Some people have this mindset and impatient mentality. Some people are selfish. While some may not see, I see clearly what the image is trying to say: Do not text and drive. I have no personal experiences with texting and driving, but every time I see the AT&T commercial of the man that ran over not only one, but three children, I cannot help but break down and cry. I could not imagine the horrific pain that engulfed his ever being. No one deserves to have to endure that kind of traumatizing event, especially the victims. But also the one texting because they have to live with it for the rest of their lives. This is why I chose texting and driving as my visual argument. I feel it is something that is not preached enough. The subject needs to be better taken care of and something young teens need to take more heed to. Texting and driving can easily be avoided if the world would pay attention and think more about

The more forceful a consequence becomes, the chances of common texting while driving incidents could decrease. This could tame the individual’s mind to not even think about losing their focal point off the road.…

Most people can admit to texting and driving or checking their phone while driving at least once in their lifetime. Most people do not see the danger of doing this because they have never been personally affected by the consequences of texting and driving. AT&T effectively uses pathos in this advertisement by creating a very realistic storyline. This advertisement starts out with a young boy riding his bicycle home. It then shows a mother and daughter leaving to run errands in the mother’s car.…

Texting drivers believe this behavior is safe that is shared by those within their social networks. The discoveries advocate that campaigns to prevent this behavior need to concentrate on educating awareness of personal risk as well as social risk by establishing…

Although, some state officials have passed laws to make it illegal to text while driving, the following facts still remain: Teens texting while driving is now the number one cause of teenage deaths on the road, surpassing drunken driving. Nearly half of teens and people in their twenties admit to texting while driving. The average time people take to glance at a text message is 4.6 seconds and if you are driving your vehicle at 55 miles per hour, you will have traveled the length of a football field. Even though these facts are eye-opening and concerning, everyone can do something to help reverse this dangerous trend. I recommend that everyone take some personal responsibility and commit to turning off their cell phone before operating their vehicle.…

Law enforcement have noticed that texting while driving affects teens differently: “Texting and driving is more dangerous for teens, who have far less experience behind the wheel than adults” (“Adults Tie Teens in Texting, Driving”). Teens are starting to get phones at a very early age. Even though texting and driving behind the wheel is dangerous, about a quarter of the people living in the United States admit to texting behind the wheel (“Adults Tie Teens in Texting, Driving”). Most believe that many teens learn this from their parents.…

Campaigns discuss the dangers of texting behind the wheel (Salazar03). It helps drivers recognize the risk (“Should Texting…”) they bring to our roads when they decide to pick up their cell phones while driving. The most important thing that campaigns do is that they encourage safe driving (“Should Texting…”). If drivers knew how important the roads mean to every other driver, they will think about it twice before picking up their cell phones while driving. Nothing is more important than knowing that our roads are safe to drive.…

A visual distraction is anything that takes your eyes off the road. While driving we are constantly being side tracked by signs and advertisements we see all over the place from the newest restaurants opening, to the $100 billion Powerball billboards on the highway, the last thing you need to be doing is trying to reply to a text while paying attention to all of these catchy signs. Cognitive distractors are anything that takes your mind off the road like engaging in a conversation via text or talking on the phone, or trying to operate your navigating system while en route. The National Safety Council states, “Drivers talking on cell phones miss half of the information in their driving environment” (National Safety Council) which causes people to become unaware of their surroundings. And lastly, manual distractions which are any distractors causing you to take your hands off the wheel such as reaching for your phone to send that quick text.…
