Animal Testing Research has been substantially enhanced throughout thousands of years by the use of animal testing. Animals have been part of many scientists’ experiments ever since before the time of Christ and have been given many contradicting opinions upon if it is right or not. Right or wrong, those who would often argue do unexpectedly agree at the reason of there being other ways we can experiment. While this is somewhat true, more than half of Nobel prizes in medicine have involved the use of animals. According to the writer of “The Similarity of Human and Animal Models”, most scientists who incorporate animals in their research do so under the belief that animals exhibit similar genetic, physiological, and behavioral similarities to human beings, making them effective model systems in which to understand both animals and humans alike. Because of the similarities within the two, both are often vulnerable to the same diseases, and the testing is a way to help each species. Although animals are humans are incredibly similar genetically, human beings are much more dominant and if animals were granted the rights that we are, our world would be much different in many ways. Human beings and animals have been helped tremendously by the use of vaccines, cures, and treatments, but human biology has also been improved through these experiments. “A lot of what doctors know about the human immune system is a result of studies conducted on mice” (Chris Hayhurst). As this time of experiments prevailed, “Virtually every advance in medical science in the 20th century, from antibiotics and vaccines to antidepressant drugs and organ transplants, has been achieved either directly or indirectly through the use of animals in laboratory experiments” (the American Medical Association). To this day, these experiments prove to be one of the most functional and knowledgeable observations that the human race has ever witnessed. Antibiotics, vaccines, and treatments have been used for years to help those suffering from diseases such as diabetes, tuberculosis, and infections caused by bacteria. Each of these were created, rather by accident or on purpose, by the use of animal testing. Although animal testing has made a grand change within our everyday life on Earth, it is important to state that it not only helps the dominant human beings, but it also helps the animals too.
Most of the human population realizes the effect that treatments and other medicines have on us, but many would be shocked by the fact that millions of animals are saved within this action too. Rabies and feline leukemia themselves would take part in hundreds of thousands of deaths throughout the animal kingdom. As a result of these animals being saved, some endangered species, including the black-footed ferret
