Argument Essay: California Proposition 65

Improved Essays
The proposition in which I chose to conduct research on is California Proposition 65. This proposition is also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. This proposition was issued by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment. According to the website prop 65 clearinghouse this proposition does not allow a person who is doing business in California to expose chemicals that can cause cancer or reproductive toxicity without giving a warning. Also chemicals are refrained from being near the presence of any drinking water. In doing so the state has a set standard of chemical which are allowed and not allowed. This proposition is enforced by the California Attorney General or by any district attorney or city …show more content…
According to the website NRDC it states that this act establishes the world's most ambitious clean energy targets out to 2030, cementing California's leadership on the world stage heading into pivotal United Nations climate talks in Paris this December. This act enforces that electricity providers get their supply of energy from renewable sources for wind or solar by 2030. This means that this act pushes extremely hard for good air solutions and diverse the energy. In my analysis of this research I also think this is a great idea , due to the fact that it creates a clean air environment , but also it eliminates slowly non-renewable energy. In addition this act can affect the cost on consumers , such as retail sales of renewable energy will increase , these sales shall increase up to 50% according to the website leginfo. I disagree on the sales part of this act , I don't believe that the retail price of renewable energy should be that high of a price. This will drive consumer away, in which they will not be very delighted to convert themselves to renewable energy. Instead they would like to keep it as it is already with non-renewable energy. With efforts of changing the price of retail on renewable energy I believe this plan will help the state of California

This was a 75 percent increase above inflation. Even the state tax revenues grew. This growth was from 11 to 12 percent. (Proposition 13 Then, Now and Forever) Another factor supporting this proposition is the effect it has had on the occupancy of owners and renters within the state. The tenancy within the state has remained stable, which has led to an increase in the average of the tenancy of California households relative to the households of other states.…

According to the Panel convened by Texas health officials the issue of the polluted San Jacinto River is not of great importance due to the statement provided on the Houston chronicle “Panel says ‘no’ to more San Jacinto River cancer studies.” In this article it clearly states that the panel will make no further investigations or tests to the issue because according to them there are not enough cases to make it a big deal. I believe that the panel is wrong for doing this because what they are basically saying is that in order for them to give any importance to this topic there has to be more cases of children with cancer. The affected area with an abnormally higher rate than normal of children with cancer is East Harris County.…

    1. Ordinance 328 is a content-neutral constitutional time, place, and manner regulation because it does not target a specific group or subject matter and is substantially related to St. Leonard's actual interest in protecting the welfare of children. Ordinance 328 is content-neutral because it serves significant government interests of protecting the welfare of children and is justified without reference to the content of the regulated speech. Since the Ordinance is content-neutral it is subject to intermediate scrutiny, and the regulation must be reasonable in time, place, and manner. (CITE WARD).…

"What is food to some, for others it is bitter poison", Lucretius, Roman poet (99 BC-55AC) If California were a country, with its population of nearly 40 million, it would be among the 30 most populous countries. The economic, political and cultural impact of the rest of California in the United States is enormous. It is for this reason that citizens' initiatives that are submitted to a referendum there and state legislation, for that matter, are so important. Of the 11 initiatives presented to the voters of California in 2012, is likely to garner the most attention is Proposition 37 on labeling of foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs).…

An overwhelming number of arguments accumulate when the issue at hand deals with money and the environment. In support the primary argument is the fact that this measure would result in money directed toward conservation efforts. Currently stores are charging their customers money for each bag they use, and when dealing with weekly grocery trips this results in a significant amount of money. Funds that grocery stores are able to spend at their own discretion. Considering the amount of change bag policies has undergone in recent years, many stores are able to use this revenue stream without fear of consequences.…

Amendment 71 to Colorado’s constitution spits in the face of democratic virtue. Colorado, being one of just 18 states in the union that allows its citizens to initiate constitutional amendments, is now assailed by private interests that would prefer to exclude the common Coloradan. Specifically, Amendment 71 makes it more difficult to amend the Colorado Constitution by requiring each and every initiative to have signatories from each and every senatorial district in Colorado, a feat that has never been accomplished by any initiative, equalling 2% of the registered voters in each respective district. Additionally, the initiative must then garner 55% of the state senate vote for passage as opposed to a simple majority. Proponents of the bill say that the Colorado Constitution is far too easy to amend and that we must raise the bar for all future bills.…

Proposition 63 For quite some time there have been issues with guns and ammo capacity. Proposition 63 offers to regulate ammo capacity and check people’s background to make sure the customers who purchase firearms are not criminals who can harm our society. Many people agree that preventing weapons from falling into the wrong hands is crucial. Sanctuary Cities One of the arguments is that the citizens have technically no say because, the citizens just have a opinion in which they vote on but then the governor will always accept or decline what is done to the state. For instances the new bill that was passed today or on May 7th, 2017, SB4, SB4 is a bill to where it makes illegal immigrants to get deported back to their country. Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the State’s sanctuary city bill into law Sunday night during a Facebook Live event from his office. The new law is now the toughest anti-sanctuary city law in the United States and provides for criminal and civil penalties for police chiefs and sheriff’s that refuse to honor immigration detainers.…

With any proposition, there are going to be a lot of “what ifs” and moral manipulation on both sides of the argument. Proposition 57 is no different. I am personally going to vote yes on proposition 57 for a few reason, most of them moral as is the norm. My first reason is because this proposition says it will only affect people accused of nonviolent crimes. I was raised in a rather poor area, a good portion of the men had been to jail or prison a few times.…

Argument analysis After jeff’s sessions speech about rescinding DACA and his words about how DACA “Denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans”, DACA became a trending, hot, and divisive topic that social media and people talk about. In this argument, I will analyze two of the op-eds written about DACA and how it affected the current situation of immigrants in the united states. The first op-ed is “NO, DACA immigrants aren’t stealing American jobs” written by Bryce Covert published in the New Republic. The other op-ed is “How DACA pits ‘good immigrants’ against millions of others” written by Joel Sati published in the Washington Post.…

This was controversial because it turned the common hard working man or woman, who enjoyed a drink after a hard day's work, into a criminal in the law's eyes. In The History of Prohibiton, a web site by J. McGrew, it states that Prohibiton also gave criminals, such as Al Capone, the opportunity to feed off the illegal substance. The organized crime circuit ate up Prohibition and began to boot leg alcohol. Local pharmacies and basements near the border became hubs for the transactions. The "Big Bosses" would purchase it in Canada, where it was legal and import it to the US.…

Current age laws have influence and affect today's society, however, laws that are harmful should be changed. Many of these laws are reasonable and have viable scientific basis, but some laws that do more harm than good and must be adjusted. Laws are put into place to keep everyone safe, however when laws do not do this, the laws need to be done away with, or modified. Opponents to this argument might say that the current laws are as good as they can get, and changing them could result in counterproductive results.…
