Title: String Art
Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech my audience will be able to create their own string art.
Introduction:
With a show of hands, how many people here has ever done string art? Okay well you are in luck because I am going to teach you how to create your own string art. String art is the art of using string to create different designs against a wooden, Styrofoam, or cork backing. It only takes 4 steps to complete this arts and crafts activity and it is very fun and cheap to do. This project is not just for girls; guys can do it too.
[Transition] So let’s get down to the basics.
I. In every project whether its writing a speech, drawing, or cooking the first step is always gather your …show more content…
Optional supplies you can get is acrylic paint and paint brushes.
[Transition] After you have gathered all of your supplies you can move on to the next step.
II. Preparing your Styrofoam board can be either the longest or the shortest process of this project.
a. To prepare your board you need to measure the half way mark of board.
i. So for instance if you buy a board that is 20 x 30 inches. ii. The half way mark will be 10 x 15 inches.
b. After you have found the half way mark you need to draw an even line all the way down the board hamburger style and cut the board along that line. I found it easier to use a knife to cut the Styrofoam rather than using scissors.
c. Now you should have 2 even sized boards, at this point you can paint both boards if you so choose.
d. After you have painted the boards and they’ve dried, if you choose to, then you can take you double side tape and cover one board completely with it, and then place the other board on top of it pressing firmly.
i. I would recommend placing some books on top of the board once you have place them together. ii. Let the books sit on top of them for like 30 minutes till an hour to make sure they stick together firmly.

To outline your template, you will need tape, the template, pins, and your board.
b. First you want to take your template and figure out where you want to place it on the board, upon figuring that out, you can tape your template down to the board.
c. Next you need to take your pins and place them along the outline of the template.
i. I used the state of Georgia as my design template. ii. So I placed the pins like one index finger apart. iii. I also allowed my son to place pins along the Glennville/Hinesville Area which is where we are from.
d. After you have outlined your whole template with the pins you can remove the template slowly and carefully.
[Transition] Now you can begin the last and most fun part of the project Stringing.
IV. Step 4 is just using your pins and embroidery string to make your design pop.
a. First you must find a starting point and tie your string around that point.
b. After that just start wrapping your string around the pins in whatever way you will like.
c. I have a video I found on YouTube, from this lady, who’s channel name is Katherout, who did her project kind of like I did mine to better show you how to do the stringing process since I wasn’t able to record how I did mine.
