Those who were against milk generally said it was because they thought it was unnatural and therefore unhealthy. Sarah Adams believes that milk is not good for us because, “calcium doesn't synthesize into our bodies properly”. In her stated opinion Sarah must assume that the only reason we would drink milk is for the calcium we would supposedly absorb. Her assumption seems reasonable. When she was a kid growing up the popular idea …show more content…
Sam Pulsipher, a college student at BYUI, drinks milk every day after his workout. He said that milk is good for us because, “not only did we start out drinking it as infants, but it also contain many nutrients we need in order to have a strong healthy body”. The assumption made is that the nutrients we need as infants is also what we will need later on in life to maintain health. Baron Yahn agrees by saying, “it’s made of healthy fat…due to the recent findings that calcium supplements actually reduce calcium levels, so the only way to increase your calcium levels are by natural foods high in calcium like milk”. The assumptions made here are that there are essential nutrients that we need that are only found in milk and cannot be absorbed in other ways. This contradicts what Sarah said in the opposing paragraph that our bodies cannot absorb the calcium in milk. Christian Carlson, a chef at Pelican Hill, says that “as a baby it is a necessity because it is high in protein and provides essential nutrients”. The assumption here is that babies need protein and those “essential nutrients” to have good health. He later comments, “helps with growth, building muscle for youth” an assumption in there is that it only helps the youth therefore meaning milk is only good for the young. A factor that Christian considered as “good” is the whitening of teeth. He claims to have learned that milk helps whiten your teeth and in his opinion that is something “good”. William French says, “Because it has calcium…Oh I think it also has good amounts of potassium and Vitamin D” William assumes that these nutrients are “good”. These seems reasonable to assume if you are one among that believe we need vitamin d and potassium for good health and that milk is how we should get them. Overall I think that majority of those who believe milk is good said something along the lines
