Argument Analysis: Growing Up In A Small Town

Decent Essays
I find this article to be very convincing. Growing up in a small town It was clear to me that people voted for who their parents voted for. I find it very convincing when the article talks about habits that people pick up from their parents. In my life, most of every habit I picked up was from my parents. Politics was always something we talked about and their views are what I grew up to believe in. The habit of my parents voting in every election are what made it very important to be to vote when I turned 18. Another example on how I was influenced was when my mom would talk about women’s rights. Growing my sister and I were strong believers in birth control, equal pay, and abortion. This became important to us because of my mom. She wanted

On the other hand, the distributed self would suggest that how people experience the world and make sense of it is primarily a result of socio-cultural processes, which varies over time and space. Constructionists conceptualize depression as an identity continually renegotiated via linguistic exchange and social performance. They would argue that the biological attitude excludes the social and linguistic dimensions of experience from consideration; social constructionist perspective is essential to understand how subjectivity and meaning are constructed in language and social interaction. For example I will briefly discuss the argument of gender differences in depression and how social constructionists consider that through looking at the ‘material discursive’ practices it is the pressures of society, which causes depression. They argue that a certain pressure is thrust upon women to be doing activities that fits the ideology of being a ‘good woman’ this can exhaust the woman’s body therefore causing depression.…

Recently, there has been an argument in the State of Texas about the power of the State and the local governments. This argument had raised up after Gregg Abbott warned about the “Californization” of Texas, and in follow passing laws that limited the power of local governments on issues like fracking in their cities. These arguments are similar to those that are for the powers for the State versus Federal government. Hence, there are lots of arguments for and against the local control, and on the other hand, it is hypocritical for the state government to impose its will on the policies.…

In my American government class, we use the term political socialization to describe the influence one’s family has on their own political identity. Although the political aspect of political socialization remains exclusive to the term, the concept that families have a profound influence on the social development of children is wide-ranging, even helping explain people's perceived value of a college education. In my own life, the expected influence of my family's experience with higher education on my own outlook never took. My family's own experience has presented me with both opportunities and challenges in pursuing my educational goals as well as testing the integrity of the goals.…

In the county which I live here in North Carolina, we will soon be facing primaries for the county sheriff, the current Sheriff has held the position 2014, during that time there has been much controversy surrounding the man. His supporters choose to make excuses for his actions; county officials have chosen to overlook some of his misconducts, his staff is afraid of him. Recently the sheriff’s office was handed the responsibility of running our local animal control facility. The number of euthanized animals in our shelter are horrendous, despite the Sheriff’s office taking control, the numbers have not decreased, at a forum I attended today with all three of the candidates trying to get on the ticket, the issue of animal control was brought…

Authors have looked into political socialization from many different sources such as the family, education and where people were raised. Socialization during childhood, for example, has been shown to have the greatest impact on voting in several studies. Interestingly, socialization can also be influenced by high school education. Academic Rigor in high school has been linked to increased voter registration among children of immigrants (Humphries, Muller, Schiller, 2013). Among this group, it has been shown that more rigorous high schools are linked to increased voter activity and…

“Never in my life would I have expected community colleges to be called potential saviors of the economy,” says George Boggs. There have been misconceptions on the validity of Community Colleges and why it might be an option to some people. Parents, institutions, and the general public see this life option as second best but what most do not realize is that Community Colleges serve as more than a “second tier” institution, but as a metaphorical fallback net. The assumption is that most students leave high school and their parents are able and willing to continue investing in their education but most do not take in consideration of those who fall short of these financial requirements, those who are not ready to take the leap to the next step…

However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…

If a person doesn’t understand how politics work, how much the president affects their daily lives, and they feel so sense of pride after voting, it can become all to easy to brush off. They aren’t having active conversation with other peers and aren’t challenging what is wrong with our country nor good. Not only that, they mostly likely aren’t surrounded by other people who also aren’t talking about politics. This example also has the same connection with civic attitude, which plays a role as to why americans aren’t going out to vote. If you parent’s aren’t involved in politics or voting or aren’t discussing it, then their children have a less likely…

Americans may live in poverty as a child but the American way gives us hope that those who work hard can achieve whatever they want out of life. If you can believe it, you can achieve it. It is important to note in the capitalist system of America you can be as poor or as rich as you want because the countries industry and trade opportunities are privately owned and not controlled by the government.…
