Argument Against Homelessness

The AZ Central article “Mesa mayor tells conference there are no homeless vets in city”, posted in January 19th, 2017, shows that the main concern for the homeless in Mesa are veterans. I understand that veterans sacrificed a lot to give each and every one of us our freedom, but why should this group be the top priority in the battle against homelessness. According to “Endhomelessness.com” only 8.6% of the total homeless population across the country are veterans (http://www.endhomelessness.org/library/entry/fact-sheet-veteran-homelessness). Why should this small percentage of the homeless be the main focus when there is children and single mothers who are in the same situation: looking for food to eat and a place to sleep?
