Argument Against Gay Adoption

Adoption has been a choice for families all over the world for a long time. Now the question of gay adoption has come up. It is still illegal for homosexuals to adopt in most states in America. There are thousands of children waiting to be adopted, and parents waiting to adopt but are banned from it. Discrimination and prejudice are the main reasons for this injustice. It should be just as easy for homosexual couples to adopt as it is for straight couples. For obvious reasons gay couples can not “create” their own children, also kids need families and homosexual couples are able to support a wonderful and loving home. Most of all every person deserves equal rights no matter who you love. Anybody who has taken a basic health class will know it is impossible for two people of the same sex to make their own children. On any given day there are 428,000 children in the program. Most children have to wait an average of 2-5 years to be adopted. (Children's Rights) Each child should have a chance at being adopted so by denying gay couples to their right to adopt is not only heartbreaking for the child and couple but unconstitutional. Single parents are allowed to adopt and it’s considered “stable.” But with gay parents, it is said to be harmful to the child because he/she do not have an equal gender role relationship with their parents. A study was conducted and the end results showed that children growing up with homosexual parents are just as well adjusted and successful as children growing up with straight parents. (Pappas). Even though letting a stable single-parent adopt is reasonable in a homosexual relationship you’d have two full-time parents. In the end, having two stable parents is better than having one single stable parent.
