Argument Against College

Do you, as a parent or even as an adolescent planning to become one, ever question whether college is ideal for your child? I strongly stand behind the traditional ways of teaching your child that college is necessary to succeed. There are many arguments that can back-up college as unnecessary, but many that cannot. An article I have read by the name of, “The Case Against College,” by Linda Lee, does in fact include good points of why college can be ruled as insignificant. Everything in life can be counteracted, and seen in different ways. Parents all over the world have their children’s future in their hands. If you are against college, my goal is to make you change your mind even in the slightest bit. I am hoping to give you a look into my head through the use of specific examples out of Linda Lee’s article. “My hair colorist makes $300,000 a year without a degree.” (Lee, Par. 7) Yes, some are luckier than others when it comes to jobs. If everyone could make $300,000 a year dyeing hair, no-one would be in college. Harvard, Brown, and other elite colleges would no longer have a dependable source of revenue because everyone can make $300,000 a year without a degree. 12) I am honestly curious as to why you would want your son to be limited on choices for a career. A career is something you have dreamed about since you were a child, not “whatever you can get”. Searching for jobs, that are usually temporary, will not be stable when you have to provide food on the table for your family. Taking whatever you can get is beyond risky, and not worth the stress. When times get rough, yes that may be your last option, but never your first. Once again, this all sounds like a Plan B option, maybe even a Plan C or
