Argument Against Animal Testing

What comes to mind when someone says animal testing? Do you see medical advancements or do you see animals being used as test subjects? When some people hear the words animal testing, they think of both sides. Animal testing has helped scientists perform miracles in the medical field. However, new technology has helped come up with different ways of testing that doesn’t involve animals. Some people believe that many years from now, the world will have little to no animal testing because of these new technologies, however, it is not possible to quit using animal testing because the technology is not completely there yet. Animal testing has helped the world overcome many obstacles in regards to medical breakthroughs involving the cures for: “polio, smallpox, and diphtheria” (Paul). Some of the breakthroughs were made with the help of mice. In 1984, scientists were able to form monoclonal antibodies, which led to other technologies to fight cancers. “Mice and other rodents contributed to the 1984 recipients’ development of the technique of forming monoclonal antibodies, a discovery that led to new tools for fighting some types of cancers” (Paul). Other animals such as: cows, sheep, cats, dogs, and monkeys have also been helping with the medical breakthroughs. Cow and sheep experiments helped scientists learn more about tuberculosis.
