Due to infertility, a great deal of women cannot get pregnant. Their solution is adoption. Although it is difficult, numerous couples choose to adopt internationally. Adopting internationally is when an individual decides to become a legal guardian of a child who lives in a different country from the one he or she lives in. Human trafficking occurs in every country of the world. To help prevent it, the Hague Convention was made up to insure that a child has not been illegally adopted by a man or woman who wants to do him or her harm. The authority of the child's country has to agree with the United States' in order to continue with the adoption. The child, normally, does not have any medical documents, due to the fact that he or she is born in a foreign country that does not have proper doctors. Once the guardian chooses to adopt a child with medical issues, the guardian has to deal with the check-ups, the paperwork, and the bills. According to Tanya Evans, she was able to adopt her son because he was suspected of having sickle cell anemia. Within the Hague Convention, the soon-to-be guardian must be a legal U.S. citizen, must reside in the U.S., and depending on whether or not the individual is married or not is what determines the law and paperwork that must be filled in order to adopt. (1)
