Ideology is usually characterized as a collection of the thoughts reflecting the social needs and desires of an individual, group or culture. Each film presents us with methods of acting, whether negative or positive, thus offering us an implied or explicit mortality or ideology. In this paper I will be discussing the ideology terms and modernism in the film ‘Argo’. Modernism is seen as a reaction to the formulas and moralism of the Victorian period. The most interesting scene in Argo is the opening scene, which is displayed through cartoons that morph into photographs and videos, along with an extra-diegetic sound which is a story telling that is relevant to the film. The voice is set in a story-telling tone, capturing the viewers’ attention.

Realism preserves the illusion that the world is not manipulated and that it mirrors the occurrence in the actual world as shown in the opening scene. Through out the film there is a use of implicit ideology which includes the use of narrative, cinematic techniques and mise-en scene to of the U.S embassy and the hurry in destroying secret documents. Mise-en scene is a French phrase that means ‘putting into the scene’, it is used to describe the design aspects of a theatre or film production. Continuity editing most likely shows physical actions and have a pace and intensity that could be related to normal human experience and is close to the idea of violence. The significance of ideology is the idea that whether the film deliberately or unknowingly advances or subvert overwhelming ideology and how the ideal tradition of Hollywood cinema includes its formalist elements and addresses the ideological beliefs. These techniques are significant to the comparison between the appearance and reality. The opening scene is powerful and solid and gives the viewers a chance to judge quickly and easily. Although during the film, the audience is shown different perspectives of the crisis and frustrates them by allowing them to constantly change their point of views towards both the Iranians and the Americans.
