Area of Focus The purpose of this study is to research the benefits of teacher professional development and training, and its effects on addressing challenging behaviors amongst young learner. This area of focus is an issue that I am passionate about, impacts teaching and learning and is an area that I will improve in my position as an early childhood assistant director. Effective classroom management is one of the most important elements of a teacher’s career. With that being said, many teachers struggle to manage their classrooms efficiently. Proper training and professional development has a tremendous impact on teacher’s ability to manage their classrooms and ensure success for all learners. Teacher A is an African American eighteen year old female high school graduate pursuing her associate’s degree in early childhood development. Teacher A has been employed with Kiddie Kollege, located in New Bern, NC, for approximately eight months. Teacher B is a twenty year old African American female high school graduate working towards earning her early childhood develop certification from Craven County Community College, located in New Bern, NC. Teacher B has been employed with Kidde Kollege Learning Center for approximately six months. Teacher C is a 41 year old African American female whom retired from the United States Marine Corps after eighteen years of service. Teacher C is also enrolled at Craven County Community College working towards earning her early childhood development certification. Teaching and Learning The above area of focus involves both teaching and learning as it focuses on teacher’s abilities to create and design a classroom environment that fosters learning for all young children. According to Teachnology (n. d.) “There are arguments that a teacher needs to be authoritative, but in a way that makes them likeable, respectable, and approachable” and “if a teacher is not a professional, how will a student feel that they are confident enough in the person who teaches them to confide in serious issues?” (www.teach-nology.com).
