Subject: Are You Your Brother’s Keeper?
Genesis 11:26-32
11: 26-32 Tarah was seventy years old and he had three sons, Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran was the father of Lot, Milcah, and Iscah. Haran dies in the land of Ur of the Chaldees. Abram married Sarai and Nahor married Milcah his brother Haran's daughter. The family left Ur and traveled Northwest along the Euphrates River Valley to Haran and then southwest toward Canaan this was the trade route to missing the Arabian Dessert which was very dangerous as it still is today.

Proposition:
Tarah was the head of the family even though God gave Abraham the vision he remained faithful to his father until his death, then he continued the mission God had given him. How many of you grew up with the head of the family being your grandfather and then your father but no decision overrode what your grandfather said. You see some of our four fathers followed the path of the Bible for that was all they knew, so the family fell in line with whatever the head of the family said for it was like the gospel.

Introduction (Antithesis):
Stories explain what natural words cannot, stories have power, they teach, motivate, and sometimes inspire the listeners. Jesus spoke in parables and sometimes told

After Abraham invited the men to his home he gave them water to wash their feet and prepared a meal, he did not sit down with them but stood as a servant to them, (an Ancient hospitality to your guest). When the men prepared to leave and headed toward Sodom Abraham walked with them. The Lord spoke and said, "Abraham, I have heard that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah are doing all kinds of evil things. Now I am going down to see for myself if those people are that bad. If they aren't I want to know about it. The men continued their way to Sodom but the Lord stayed with Abraham. Abraham started to petition the Lord for Lot and his

Once again, Abraham lies in an alien land and uses Sarah to safeguard his life. Similar to the fate of the Pharaoh, the deity threatens King Abimelech’s life because of Abraham’s deceit. However, this time, the deity states that Abraham is a prophet and informs the king that Abraham has the power to pray for him and save his life. King Abimelech gives Abraham sheep, oxen, and male and female slaves just as the Pharaoh had done in Egypt. Thus, from one narrative to the next, as Abraham journeys through alien lands, he gains not only material resources, including livestock and slaves, which improves his social-economic status, but he also receives land and silver (20:16) and increased socio-religious status and power through his covenant with the Lord and the Lord’s conference of the position “prophet” upon him.…

    c. In Simply Jesus, Wright explains the reasoning behind Jesus using parables as a method to paint a divine picture of what was happening right now; What life would look like with God as king through storytelling to reveal the character and redeeming qualities of God. The beauty and vision of His kingdom could be demonstrated through the telling of the parables and would also let people know that the kingdom is here. His teaching suggested that the time to repent and rejoice is not a future event, but happening in the here and now. His parables provided a way for people to understand that the laws of Moses were not enough, that God needed them to renew and transform their minds.…

In the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke describe the teachings of Jesus as being figurative language in the form of parables, or aphorisms (Harris, 2015). They wrote that Jesus never spoke to the public unless using a parable to get his point across. A parable is a quick story that uses some common event or object to help the person understand a situation more clearly. Jesus often used parables when talking about the growing church. He described the church as a mustard seed, which is extremely small but grows into a huge plant.…

Since the first Torahs and Bibles were written and printed, there has been constant discussion and argument circling around the aspects of interpretations and what certain passages mean versus what they don’t. As readers of anything, it is important to look for meaning, even more so when it comes to heavily religious texts like that of the Judeo-Christian faiths. Within recent years, the overarching argument within Christianity specifically, has become about the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. This discussion, however, is not a simple one by any stretch, as the mentioning and referencing of this event spreads wide across Scripture in both Old and New Testaments. Not only is the topic widespread, but in the past few recent decades…

Jesus taught his twelve disciples, those that followed him where ever Jesus went and those that were plotting against him that would listen to him parables. Jesus parables or stories were to give deeper insight to how we as Christ’s followers are to live according to how Christ portrayed the lives that were his parables (Kenan,2003). Parables were to answers questions that the disciples might have had, or lessons of life that Jesus felt was important to encourage the disciples of what life was to bring them (Pratt, 2009). There are thirty-one parables in which taught. According to the Gospels, Mathew recorded fifteen, Mark recorded four, and Luke recorded seventeen parables.…

Jesus frequently utilized parables to communicate essential truths in a memorable and relatable format. The use of parables is not limited to reading or re-telling the parables of Jesus. When the disciples asked Jesus to “teach them how to pray” (Luke 11:1-13), Jesus responded by providing an example and a pattern which the disciples could understand then personalize. Jesus was providing a powerful example to the disciples, and modern Christians, about how to teach people by utilizing a narrative, a story, a parable. Jesus used parables to form a personal and relatable connection with people, then transferred the truth, passion, and message.…

The bible is more than just some make-believe story for people to believe in. The bible is a huge piece of art, written by those whom God found worthy. As we begin understanding the meaning embedded throughout the Old Testament, it is important to start from the beginning, before mankind. With the great power of God, He created the world in which we live today. In this creation He also created something exceptional, one man and one woman.…

There has been a vast number of topics we have touched on this semester, from creation to David’s raise to power, but the topic that intrigues me the most is the one that points back to the faithfulness, love, and grace of God, despite man 's constant enmity with God we see his mercy towards us from the beginning. Therefore in this research paper I have decided to delve a little deeper into the Abrahamic covenant; the theological implications of Abraham reach down to a depth that I am unable to dig, but my goal is to see the immense glory of God in three ways. Genesis chapter twelve verse one tells us God called Abraham, not because he was more righteous than most, not because he was a man of great prestige, nor did God call Abraham because Abraham sought after God. Rather the choice that God made was done solely for His glory ( Romans 11:36). Secondly, God promised to bless Abraham, in three…
