We have two stories of girls just doing their best to fit in, Susie from the movie, “The Lovely Bones” directed by Peter Jackson written by Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens (All three screenplay), and Alice Sebold(Novel) and Connie from Joyce Carol Oates’ “Where are you going, where have you been?”. These girls are lured to the clutches of dangerous men that seemed harmless enough. They trusted them because they were “a man from our neighborhood” (The Lovely Bones) she knew or because they were in the restaurant notorious for being the “older kids” hang out. In today’s society we are more cautious in everyday life when interacting with others, but on the internet we are given this false sense of anonymity, making us more comfortable engaging with people because we don’t know them …show more content…
While in today’s current society we have limitless information at our fingertips, making us more aware of the horrible kinds of people that are out there like the two men in the stories above. What I have personally noticed in people today is we react to one another in very aggressive and defensive manners when approached by someone out in the open. We have become so introverted we are not as easy to pick off in public, but on the internet we give away more information than we realize, yet we are totally comfortable with it. However, if someone were to approach us asking for all that information in person we would shut up instantly, and become very defensive. We have become easier to specifically target, but “herd hunting” is not as easy for these kinds of predators any more. The predators that came after those girls, haven’t disappeared but they have evolved right alongside
