Are the Web Filters at your school too restrictive?
They are because they get in the way of student research and they block educational websites that teachers use to teach there students.Most of the filters that they create are pointless.

Lynette Owens says "Schools have an obligation to support educational freedom and exploration. Its tough to do this when you lock everything down and keep the world at bay."This is true students will never be able to research freely with these filters. Even myself as a student have a hard time doing research on the assignment 's that my teachers give me. I 've learned that these filters also block websites using keywords. This makes sense if it was close to anything that was either really graphic or 18+. But besides that we should be able to research anything. Even doing this research I had trouble with this link that I thought would work I was reading it and it seemed it had good information but what do you know it had a filter blocking it and it made me frustrated. These filters limit our search for information. I can understand the filters In elementary or even in middle school but in high school we should have less restrictions since were almost adults. They need at least lessen the restrictions to certain websites. Now a days the schools are giving their students laptops and tablets to do assignments, research, and look at educational websites but they cant because of the filters the school uses. For example the YouTube website is a website that has inappropriate material on it but it also has a lot of famous people and useable information that the students can use. About "98 percent filter the online content available to students". If the schools are here for us students to learn we shouldn’t be limited to the information for us to learn. Instead of the schools worrying about filtering websites they need to do something about the kids who don 't want to do anything and the ones who cause trouble and bully kids. But no the schools just waste there time filtering every website that does have non educational material and never thought about the educational material that is on it. They put filters pretty much on anything
