A study posted in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology posted (McConnel, Brown, Shoda, Stayton, & Martin, 2011)“We observed evidence that pet owners fared better, both in terms of well-being outcomes and individual differences, than non-owners on several dimensions,” said lead researcher Allen R. For example, in the article “The Health Benefits of Dogs (and Cats)” by Lawrence Robinson, Jeanne Segal, Ph.D it states, “Companionship can help prevent illness and even add years to your life, while isolation and loneliness can trigger symptoms of depression.” In other words companionship can help prevent depression, illness, isolation, and can make you live longer. This shows that animals help humans by accompanying people so that they can have long lives and prevent sadness. Another example is from the article “This is Why You Care More about Some Animals Than Humans” by Emily Anderson which states, “... Herzog said that people get attached to animals for a number of reasons, but that it’s mostly a combination of our biology and our need for affection.”…

In the United States, there are approximately 74-96 million owned cats in comparison to the 70-80 million owned dogs. Meaning that you are more likely to own a cat. I never understood this as a dog lover, because cats seem to just be a “lazy person’s dog.” Cats seem to lack all the good qualities of a dog such as: loyalty, obedience, playfulness, and so forth.
