Decent Essays
I believe that naps are both good and bad. This conclusion comes from both personal experience and information taken from the articles given. Personally, I have nothing against naps. However, after reading the articles, I have more information about the topic, causing me to be biased towards the negative. On one hand, I have my reasoning for the positive in naps. My family takes naps often during the weekends, but I do not usually partake in the relaxation. Whether the motive is light interfering, or personal preference, I have not repeatedly taken a nap with my family. However, when I do take naps, I usually wake up feeling refreshed and energized for the rest of the day. This causes my positive reaction. Also, the article shows a

Having the ability just to rest and relax for several hours after a long day can be very refreshing and sleep gives our body time to restore energy to prepare us for the next day to come. While not having to sleep would leave more time in the day to get things done, no sleep would also negatively impact your attitude and personality.…

As a person who doesn’t have a set sleep schedule and either goes to bed at 9:30 pm or at 1:00 am, I relate to the article very well. In my opinion, some days when I fall asleep at 9:30 pm, I share the same sense of “good sleep.” I struggle to wake up even with multiple alarms and drag myself downstairs to eat. Throughout the day though I may seem to be towards a good mood as I greet people, have large patience, stay focused on the task at hand more, and return to my bed wide awake. On the other hand, when I get few hours of sleep when I go to bed at 1:00 am, I share some qualities of the “bad sleep.”…

One risk associated with cosleeping is that some studies show that if they cosleep too many years into their childhood, that they may form relationships that are inappropriately strong, “leading to difficulties when the child matures and attempts to form romantic, sexual relationships” (Rath, 1995 p. 441). Some may also fear that cosleeping increases the risk of sexual abuse as the child ages since they sleep in such close proximity to a parent. Cosleeping may also be a negative practice because in Western culture, parents think a child should have a sense of autonomy and should be sleeping alone at an early age to encourage this type of behavior (Cortsei, 2008 p. 90). The extinction method promotes autonomy because the child is learning that sometimes the parent will not be there to help them, and they have to learn soothing methods for themselves.…
