From reading the article, “I’m a Millennial and My Generation Sucks” by Johnny Oleksinski knows that millennials take life for granted …show more content…
By the same token, the millennial generation has a different reality and perspective than previous generations because they will not get the same things out of life that baby-boomers experienced. The Pew Research Center states “The older generation...the beneficiaries of good timing...in everything from a strong economy to a long rise in housing prices” (Kotkin). In other words, the older generation had no conflicts when it came to getting an education or buying a house whereas the economy has now changed by making it harder on millennials. Equally important, numerous millennials struggle in result of the baby-boomers impact on the world. To support this statement, Kotkin states “The screwed generation also enters adulthood loaded down by a mountainhood of boomer and senior-incurred debt. In other words, older people are in debt and not retiring until they pay the debt off. This then impacts millennials trying to search for jobs. Last but not least, it appears that the newest generation has a doubtful outcome in the future. Based on a Rutgers study, 56 percent of recent high-school graduates feel they would not be financially more successful than their parents whereas 14 percent thought they’d do better (Kotkin). Although it is clear that the two articles have two different opinions and ideas, I found Kotkin’s article to be somewhat more relatable. One would support Kotkin when he states that boomers in debt are causing a downfall on millennials. When it came to Oleksinski’s article, it came off too biased because he is a millennial himself and is bashing other millennials. Oleksinski is in the wrong because one of his main topics is millennials complaining and whining but yet he’s complaining just like any other millennial. From my personal experience, I find it unfair for Oleksinksi to be a millennial and to say the sarcastic words he said. Kotkin was fair with his opinion such as giving different viewpoints and this is why I like his whole article as a whole. Ultimately, both articles are informative as well as interesting on the aspects of
