Are Kids On Social Media Good Or Bad

Improved Essays
Kids on social media these days don’t think about what could happen if they do something wrong. Kids do a lot of bad things, even adults did bad things when they were kids too, adults need to teach kids that bad things can go bad if you do something wrong. Kids grow up and see bad things online and social media, and those things get a lot of people's attention. So then kids start to do those bad things and then it starts to grow and everyone see’s them. Then you get caught what do you do now? You can’t do anything about it and you get in trouble, you can’t do nothing, it would suck, after that you might of learned your lesson and you won’t probably do those things anymore.

Some parents don’t even care if their child does bad things on social media, and do you why they don’t care? It’s probably because they did the same thing as them when they were a kid too. Society needs to teach kids that bad things can really get them into dangerous things. An example,”An adult, posing as a kid, goes online to lure a teenager boy or girl into what could have been a dangerous situation. When the unsuspecting teen reaches the target location, his or her reactions is captured on camera, along with the reactions of the parent.” Bad things like that can get you in a horrible situation.

Unfortunately, this isn’t safe because parents can’t always protect what their children find online. Minors should not be allowed to use social media because it can expose them to inappropriate content. One reason to not let minors use social media is that minors become exposed. For example, say a person gets mad at someone else and wants to hurt them.…

Social media is taking over society to the point where one in 10 children now has a mental health issue, and a third of teenagers feel "low, sad, or down" at least once a week. It only takes a kid four hours or more a day in front of a screen to become mentally ill and the sad part is we all know kids spend way more than four hours a day in front of a screen. Social media is defined by Merriam Webster as forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content. (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The “like” system panders to users’ needs for validation, which reinforces self -centered thoughts and behaviors. Sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, add more complications and expectations to the lives of users because they compare themselves to others, which can fuel feelings of inadequacy.…

When looking at how bullying has evolved over time, it is evident that cyberbullying has transpired from traditional bullying. Traditionally, bullying involved pushing, shoving and physically hurting someone, now as technology has developed; bullying has become online through cyberspace. When a child experienced bullying within the school, the individual would come home with bruises and cuts that would evidently show the parent, or guardian bullying was emerging (P. Coburn, D. Connolly, & R. Roesch, 2015). Cyberbullying is completely different then the traditional way, it is not focused on hands on and physically hurting an individual, it is psychologically damaging until the person is mentally unstable resulting in self harm or suicidal ideation (P. Coburn, D. Connolly, & R. Roesch, 2015). Unfortunately, because parents are not informed with the types of media their children have access to, the parents or guardians do not find out until a tremendous amount of psychological damage has occurred.…
