Are Katniss The Best Advantages?

Decent Essays
Katniss has the best advantage in the games because she has always been in the woods and to her advantage the arena is in the forest, although you may think the Career Tributes have the better advantage, but Katniss does. “Funny though, I don’t feel too bad. The days of gorging myself have paid off. I’ve got staying power even though I’m short on sleep”(Collins 152). Since Katniss ate so much before the games, she won’t be hungry for a while, but if she does she knows how to set up traps from past experiences with her father when she was younger. From her father she learned many skills like how to hunt and how to identify plants. “The exceptions are the kids from the wealthier districts, the volunteers, the ones who have been fed and trained

Equality and Katniss: Both Similar and Different The author of Anthem and the author of The Hunger Games trilogy never shook hands, but the extensive similarities and sizeable differences between Katniss and Equality are clear. Similarities and differences possess the ability to be unified with each other to recognize strong characters and heroes throughout literatures; however, they can also be put up against each other as opposing forces in constant battle. It is important to take a step back and remember that both similarities and differences should be looked at and admired, as it is what makes each character in a story unique from the others.…

During the games in Suzanne Collins novel Katniss originally is isolated and focused solely on proving and keeping herself alive however, after she began to loose hope she turned to Rue, another tribute who reached out and saved her life, for fellowship. Katniss declares “Rue has decided to trust me wholeheartedly. I know this because as soon as the anthem finished she snuggles up against me and falls asleep” (Collins 208). Through the struggle for survival the two girls build a strong bond which provides each of them with a reason to persevere through the oppression they are being held in. This even continues as Rue is dying as their last conversation consist of “‘You have to win,’ she says, ‘I’m going to.…

Additionally, the type of arena chosen was very similar to the woods surrounding her home district. This habitat provided comfort for Katniss and allowed to use her knowledge in hunting and gathering to sustain her during the games. Furthermore, the relationships of Cinna, Rue and Haymitch gave Katniss hope during the Games. Cinna created the Girl on Fire which made Katniss desirable, Rue helped Katniss out of a dangerous situation with the tracker jackers and their alliance helped Katniss survive. Lastly, Haymitch’s ability to obtain sponsors for Katniss helped her fight and stay alive.…

Being a physically talented woman allows her to make people believe that her side will ultimately be the winning one. This gives Katniss the ability to lead effectively, as those following her look up to her in part because of her strength. An effective leader will protect those they love and those who follow and believe in them. This is clearly demonstrated in Katniss’ first Hunger games. The Hunger games are a competition invented by the Capitol (the essential elite government) where a tribute from each district (the working classes) is drawn at random to compete to the death in a programmed arena until a lone victor remains.…

Throughout the book, her intelligence is exemplified with her awareness of surveillance. First, Katniss was conscious of the cameras as soon as she volunteered to take Prim’s place. Kelley Wezner says, “… Katniss equates the cameras with self-control as she struggles to contain her tears so that she will not look weak to competitors during the evening of replays of her district’s reaping” (154). I believe Katniss was smart to hold back her emotions because if she didn’t she would have looked like an easy target to the other tributes and I also believe her ability to control her emotions at such a problematic time showed her mental strength and possibly helped her gain sponsors. The second example is during the first night in the games when Katniss is hiding out in a tree and she finds out Peeta is working with the careers.…

Katniss is thrown unwillingly into the spotlight and made a celebrity for The Hunger Games. She is wracked with nerves for every interview and appearance she has to make in the lead up to the sadistic reality show but she puts on a smile and fights through it. Katniss is described by her mentor Haymitch as “sullen and hostile”. Throughout the games, Katniss has the internal struggle of choosing between two things, her allies and friends she makes during the games or survival, which means getting back home to her sister Prim and her best friend Gale. At one point, Katniss even attempts to sacrifice herself and a friend in an act of rebellion against the cruel, vindictive President Snow that has supressed, starved and tortured the districts for 74 years.…

Most people in the districts know that if a young girl, like Katniss, was to volunteer and go into the Hunger Games that she would most likely die and not be able to stand her ground. Throughout the whole movie and games, Katniss struggles to prove that she is strong and worthy of this. For example, at one part of the movie, she perfectly aims her arrow right next to all the government officials who refused to pay any attention to her skills. This can be related to the modern day struggle that women still have in this country when competing for army or navy seal positions. Men and even some woman, every day, say how men are physically stronger which means they are much more capable.…
