Juvenile Offenders Should Be Punished Too Hard For Crime

The Criminal Justice System Looking at the criminal justice system many people question the whole works of the whole system. Understanding the criminal justice system is realizing how misdirected or mistreated individuals are being lead especially juveniles. The perfect topic for this paper would be are juvenile offenders being punished too hard for the crimes they commit. Many are faced with a vindictive system that shows no empathy towards them being children, but just wants to punish them for making a mistake. It’s proven that all kids make mistakes and often learn from them, but the way the system is designed many juveniles face labels that cause long term problems. Juveniles are being confined or monitored for deviant behavior, in which all kids tend to be a little deviant at times. This behavior tends to be normal for any adolescent, authority figures would refute this notion by looking at anything as breaking the law as criminal. In today’s society many people don’t find this to be a problem, but juveniles tend to shy away from this type of authority. Easily states could have programs that focus on detouring this behavior or finding the root of why the behavior developed. Restrictions and limitations put a troubled or frustrated kid only adds fuel to the fire. With this being said instead of extreme punishment or consequences local authorities should focus on long term solutions to change the offender’s behavior. Deviant behavior is usually temporary and every teenager experiences some type of behavior like this. Authorities and other state officials may not have the patience to distinguish the difference between the two. Being a juvenile is the most influential time in someone’s life so deviant behavior can easily be fixed by altering one’s environment. Deviant and delinquent behavior both can be fixed by looking at the kid’s school, home, and friends. If this issue keeps getting ignored we will breed new troubled youth that would basically have no choice but to be criminal. This paper should open everyone’s eyes to realize kids are kids and should be sheltered and treated with delicacy to protect the innocence of the child. Everyone understands there’s going to be backlash for any type of change, or feel like there’s no change needed. But doing research and interviewing people that work with great kids every day and see how the criminal justice system ruins lives should be enough to at least get others to at least listen and look into a different
