Silent Spring By Rachel Carson: What Is Meteorology?

Are human impacting weather? With the help of manly meteorologist and other scientist we can find the answer. What is meteorology? Meteorology is the study of the past, present, and future atmosphere. Meteorologists do anything from forecasting the weather to being climatologists. Weather can be predicted by many factors, like temperature, air saturation, orography, and the environment. The environment is a big factor. Silent Spring, a book written by Rachel Carson, explains the effects of pesticides and chemicals on the environment. Rachel Carson ends her book with, “it’s our alarming misfortune that so primitive a science has armed itself with most modern and terrible weapons, and that in turning them against the insects it has also turned them against the earth”(“Carson, Rachel”). Are humans impacting weather? Yes! With the proof of charts, research, statistics, and facts we can conclude that humans are the primary cause of global warming and global climate change. We have learned about fossil fuels, greenhouse gases such as, carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor and nitrous oxide and more. We can confirm that with the burning of fossil fuel, humans increase the levels of greenhouse gases causing the earth and its atmosphere to heat up. Results of global warming and climate change can show that weather pattern are effected. We humans are creating a domino effect, starting with unnatural chemicals, fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, and weather change. Who knows where the dominos will end. Rachel Carson wrote in Silent Spring, “the predator and the preyed upon exist not alone, but as part of a vast web of life, all of which needs to be taken into account”(“ “).
