Esports Are Not A Sport Essay

Who knows what qualities something must have to be called a sport? Do we have a list of clearly defined points that are used to judge an activity to know if it is or isn’t a sport? Well I bring this up due to the controversial topic of “Esports aren’t really a sport” and how I disagree with this popular viewpoint. Esports have many traits that are found in other socially accepted sport such as football when a large group is required to work in a coordinated fashion under ample amounts of stress in short periods of time. This is only one of many similarities that Esports shares with other sports that will be discussed. First and foremost, Esports has a captivating attribute to it when someone watches the tournaments, this is possible due to the “easy to get into” games. The captivating competitions are housed around the premise of video game tournaments to get gamers to group together, allowing them to learn and gain experience from one another. Thus they would get better at the game along the way. And that these new found experiences they gained together are then expressed in the gameplay shown to everyone when the tournament is broadcasted/streamed to the world. Simple, it shows you that regardless of how people view sports in a “traditional” sense, if you look objectively at the activity and view it for what it’s worth and how it can benefit others in the process along with gaining skill and traits that can benefit those who partake in it. You can get a clear and decisive viewpoint on how and why we should properly call Esports… well just that, electronic sports, it’s a sport based around mental aptitude along with one’s reaction time and how effectively they can react to a situation in a short span of time.
