One reason competitive sports benefits kids are that sports can teach you life skills. For example, “Creating and setting goals is an integral part of being an athlete”(Mango 2). Athletes will bring this skill into their adult life, which can help them further their careers. To illustrate, “No matter how good an athlete becomes, there will always be times when they fail. “It is what one does after failure, how they cope, that will determine future positive outcomes”(Mango 3) During life you will fail sometimes. As a result of “Participating in competitive youth sports, burns calories and helps to prevent obesity” (Davis 1). Obesity is a rising problem in America, participating in sports will help young people stay healthy and happy. Furthermore, “Many children who are active in sports are motivated to eat healthier foods, such as fruits and vegetables”(Davis 1). Adolescents will learn how to live a healthy lifestyle and all the benefits they acquire from living one. Additionally, youth sports can be “an outlet for expression, friendship, and controlled aggression.” “Teens who have positive influences and friends feel less of a need to participate in risky behaviors.”(Davis 2). Children will be less likely to do risky things such as drugs or breaking the law. Not doing drugs will evidently be beneficial to your child's health.
